Profile Information

Favorite Restaurant in Rhode Island
Al Forno for the whole package. It never disappoints. Persimmon in Bristol is also excellent. Asterisk in Newport has a great bistro feel and one of the best bars (and best espresso martini) in the state. Red Stripe for fun atmosphere and dinner with friends. Mill's Tavern is knocking it out of the ballpark once again as well. And, of course, the Back Eddy in Westport, Ma for the best in local seafood and produce...and great bartenders.
Favorite Place for Dessert
I'm not a dessert guy...would rather have an extra appetizer any day!
Favorite Cheap Eats
Flo's in Portsmouth...take a drive to Fall River and check out the Ugly American for great burgers and unusual sides...Apsara Palace on Hope Street is great.
Condiment you can't live without
Hoisin sauce...I do a lot of Asian inspired cooking.

Have you tried it all???

This comes from a British foodie website. I received it from a friend, and I was surprised that I only got about 52 out of 100. I don't know...maybe that's a good score, but I thought I've tried a lot of things in my day...apparently not! Posted by Andrew on August 13th, 2008 Here’s a chance for a little interactivity for all the bloggers out there. Below is a list of 100 things that I think every good omnivore should have tried at least once in their life. The list includes fine food, strange… Continue

LONG ISLAND'S WINE COUNTRY IS A GREAT WEEKEND VISIT

The eastern end of Long Island has transformed itself in the last 25 or so years from a farm community, growing mainly potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage and root crops, to a wine community, featuring over 30 wineries, some producing world-class wines. With the wineries came tourists demanding good food, and so followed the restaurants. And with the restaurants came newer hotels to accommodate the tourists. Sure, some of the old Long Island is still there. Small family-owned farmstands (and winerie… Continue

Favorite cookbooks

Barbecued Ribs, Smoked Butts and Other Great Feeds, by Jeanne Voltz: I consider this my “Bible of Barbecue.” The chapters are devided by meats (pork, beef, lamb, etc) and there are many sauce recipes to choose from. Also a great guide to basic grilling techniques. The Chinese Cookbook, by Craig Claiborne and Virginia Lee: Other than a few drawings, this book is just packed with great information about the history and techniques of Chinese cooking. Written in 1972, before we were able to find… Continue

Our goal was not to create another place for people to get hit with a one way information flow, but to start a dynamic, group conversation about food culture in Rhode island by all who are passionate about it. Bon Appetite
